Candy Creativity

10/21/2015

Looking for ways to use unwanted or leftover Halloween candy? Well here are some fun, educational and creative ways:

  1. Play hide and go treat.
Hide treats around your house and make a game of it with your child. Stretch language, motor plan and encourage problem solving as your child searches for sweets from clues provided to them.
  1. Use candy as math counters.
No need to search for plastic pieces to explain math concepts. Use hard candy, skittles, m&m’s etc.! Add, subtract, group and divide with them! It’s a fun way to do homework.
  1. Use your candy for science.
Enhance learning with cool science experiments that use candy as materials. Look online at candy chromatography or a Mentos Geyser for some fun experiments!
  1. Create candy art.
Candy can be a craft supply: Have your child glue some on paper for a colorful mosaic, save it & use it for your holiday gingerbread house or melt it down to create something new!  Making a candy bouquet is always a special gift for a friend or relative.
  1. Donate to charity.
Ask around your community and you may find opportunities to donate sweets to a charitable cause. Some groups collect candy to send to troops overseas, while the local food bank may like to offer something sweet to struggling families.

I hope these activity tips are helpful, useful & enjoyable for you and your child!
